History of this club  :
      Mohun Bagan Athletic Club (Mohun Bagan AC) is a sports club from India, best known for its football team, based in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Mohun Bagan AC is one of the oldest football clubs in Asia, having been established in 1889. The first President of this club was Bhupendra Nath Bose. Mohun Bagan Club has a complete Football Academy in collaboration with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) at Durgapur.
           The football team has been hugely successful since its establishment and has maintained its status as one of India's most successful clubs having won multiple trophies of national significance. Federation Cup (India), Rovers Cup, Durand Cup, IFA Shield and National & Domestic League to name a few. Mohun Bagan was the first Indian team to defeat a European team, when the team defeated the East Yorkshire Regiment, 2-1 to lift the 1911 IFA Shield. 
            The year was 1889. The Indian independence movement against the British rule was spreading rapidly after the uprising of 1857 Sepoy Mutiny. It was a period of growing political awareness, manifestation of Indian public opinion, and emergence of Indian leadership at national and provincial levels. The birth of Mohun Bagan club on 15th august 1889 is not only organizing a football club but a step forward towards promoting a patriotic feeling, an awakening spirit in Bengali hearts. Mohun Bagan is not only a club, it is a national institution.

Significance of the win :
        The win of 1911 has stood the test of time and is nothing short of an epic story in this part of the country and the stupendous win which is said to have rendered an impetus to the anti-colonial sentiments at that time is till now cherished by the locals and the rest of the country. A postage stamp was issued by the Government of
India in 1989 during the club's centenary year to commemorate the 1911 victory of the team against the English side. The then Indian Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi honoured Mohun Bagan AC with the title as the National Club of India for boosting up the Indian Nationalism which occurred after this win.
       In 2010, the
Government of India issued a special postal cover commemorating the grand success.
       In 2011, on the centenary year of the 1911 win, a Bengali movie was made to pay homage to the immortal eleven of Mohun Bagan and to relive the joy that drenched India a hundred years ago. The movie is name Egaro-the Immortal Eleven.

Hiralal Mukherjee

The custodian of The Immortal XI was born on 14th October 1886. He was from a very middle class family of North Calcutta and started his early education here in Bagbazar. Mukherjee lost his father when he was in his early school days and moved to Howrah with his elder sister. He passed the Entrance Examination from Howarh Zilla School in 1904. Then he went on for engineering degree at B.E. College Shibpur. That time he had to take only one option between engineering and football. He went with the latter. He joined Mohun Bagan Athletic Club in 1906. Before that he used to play for Madanmohan Sporting Club, the club formed by Mr. Mukherjee himself. Mukherjee was considered to be a penalty specialist and was instrumental against the mighty Rangers in the 2nd round game of the IFA Shield. He saved a penalty in that match and Mohun Bagan won the match by 2 goals to 1. His professional life was attached with Maclin Company, later on started his own business.

On 14th December 1962 Hiralal Mukherjee passed away. 

A. Bhuti Sukul
The right back of The Immortal XI. Although his family was from Uttar Pradesh, Bhuti Sukul spent his entire life at Sukia Street, Calcutta. His performance in the first semifinal match against Middlesex was an incredible one. The Indian Daily News on 25th July 1911 reported “ Sukul at back the savior of his side and on three occasions averted calamities by timely rushes and tricky footwork”. He went on playing for Mohun Bagan till 1916 and became the captain of Mohun Bagan in 1916. Under his guidance flourished another stalwart of Mohun Bagan, Goshtho Pal, the Chinese wall. This great sports person died on 16th April 1916. 

Rev. Sudhir Chatterjee
The only booted antique of The Immortal XI, Rev. Chatterjee was born on 12th November 1883. Though he was the only booted player in the squad he never made bad use of it. Rev Chatterjee joined Mohun Bagan in 1904. Before that he started playing football for Dyana Club. Rev Chatterjee along with Bhuti Sukul composed the framework of Mohun Bagan defense. He had a very short football career due to his injury. He was highly educated person and considered as a dignified member of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club. After getting M.A degree he started his career as an academia in college. For higher studies, he went to London in 1923 and joined Cambridge University. Later on he got the post of lecturer at Trinity. Soon after he returned India and formed Residential College at Bishnupur. He was also associated with other educational institutes like Scottish Church College and Women’s College. Rev Chatterjee sculptured his humanity as well. During China War he went on to bid his gold medal of 1911 for the national defense fund. Rev Chatterjee died on 12th April 1966. 

Nilmadhab Bhattacharya
The left half of The Immortal XI. He was born at Nadia district in 1888. He was considered to be the most stylish player of the squad. His football skill showed an impression of modern football. He used to move with the ball and had the habit of scoring goals. Nilmadhab Bhattacharya was very funny with his team mates and used to make situation light for others. His professional life was occupied with National Bank. Mr Bhattacharya passed away in 1951. 

Rajendranath Sengupta
The junior most of The Immortal XI, born in Bikrampur, presently in Bangladesh. Sengupta played in the centre half position and played so consistently well that he was considered to be one of the pivots of the squad. It was nearly difficult for the English man to get past Sengupta in a one-to-one situation. After retirement from football, he was associated with Akashvani. Probably he was the first footballer to be introduced as a football commentator in Bengali. He came to short of his life just after one year of independence. 

Manmohon Mukherjee
The right half of The Immortal XI. Manmohon Mukherjee was from Uttarpara, Hoogly. He joined Mohun Bagan at the age of 23 and had enormous source of stamina. He could easily manage to field himself for twice in a single day. Mukherjee played for Mohun Bagan regularly from 1908 to 1915. After that he served PWD. An important aspect of this family is his son Bimal Mukherjee. Bimal Mukherjee was the captain of Mohun Bagan in 1939 that won the Calcutta league for the first time. When father was instrumental with first Shield victory, the son took the crown of first league victory.  It is an incredible stuff indeed. Manmohon Mukherjee expired on 7th January 1948. He was nearly 60 at the time of his death; he was suffering from throat cancer.

Jitendranath Roy
He was well known as Kanu Roy, born in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1890. Kanu Roy started his education in Dhaka, and then moved to Presidency College, Kolkata. Having earned the scholarship he passed the Entrance Examination with First division. To start with his football career Kanu Roy started with Dhaka Wari and then joined Mohun Bagan. He scored a vital goal against Middlesex in 1st semifinal which was ended in a draw. That time Mohun Bagan was trailing by a goal and Kanu Roy equalized with his famous rainbow kick. KanuWari and incidentally played the last match for Dhaka Wari and it was against Mohun Bagan. It was a match of IFA Shield in 1921 and Kanu Roy pulled off his career scoring against Mohun Bagan. He served for police department and took his retirement as a DIG in 1947. Kanu Roy died on 14th September 1962.

Sreesh Chandra Sarkar
Sreesh Chandra Sarkar, well known as Habul Sarkar was the right in of The Immortal XI. He was born in 1885. He joined Mohun Bagan in 1905. Initially Habul Sarkar was comfortable in half back position later he shifted to right in. He had scored a goal against Middlesex in the 2nd semifinal match which Mohun Bagan had won 3-0. Besides his football skill, he did showed his acting skills with Bengali theatre. He was also a famous hockey player and helped Greer Sports Club to win the hockey league in 1919.  He worked for Kolkata Corporation. This versatile talent’s life came to an ending after suffering from a massive cardiac attack on 28th November 1961.

Bejoy Das Bhaduri
The glorious football achievement of Mohun Bagan in 1911 was mainly the result of the handiwork of the Bhaduri brothers who at that time had no equals. If Shib Das Bhaduri, his brother had scored the bulk of the goals, majority of the credits was due to Bejoy Das Bhaduri. In fact combination of these two brothers used to work havoc with the opposition. He was born at Faridpur, Bangladesh. Bejoy Das was instrumental with his footwork. He scored the sole goal against Rifle Brigade in the 3rd round of the IFA Shield. He was the captain of Mohun Bagan in 1913-14 seasons. He played till 1915 and later became on of the founders of the Albert Club in north Calcutta. He was a very active member of the Calcutta Referees Association and was active till the last moment of his life. Bejoy Das Bhaduri died on 21st November 1936 after suffering from typhoid.

Shib Das Bhaduri
The captain of The Immortal Eleven scored the equalizer in the final match. He was the main goal getter for Mohun Bagan that time. He scored 2 goals against Rangers in the 2nd round and Mohun Bagan won the match by 2-1. He was very much opportunistic within the opponent box. His contemporary players regarded him as the best player of their time. Apart from 1911, he was the main pillar of success against the Dalhousie Club in Gladstone Cup 1905. Mohun Bagan came heavily over the British team to register a straight 5-0 victory. He used to play in the left out position. The captain of the Immortal XI lost the battle of life at the age of just 44. On 26th February 1932 Shib Das Bhaduri expired at Puri. As a mark of respect, Calcutta Corporation renamed Fariapukur Street as Shib Das Bhaduri Street.
